The Sardis Secondary School expansion will add 400 new student seats, increasing the school's total capacity to 1,600 from the current 1,200. This two-storey addition will feature environmentally friendly mass-timber construction, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and aligning with the province’s sustainability goals. Along with the classroom expansion, the gymnasium will be refurbished to support indoor physical education for the growing student body.
Funded by a $40-million investment from the B.C. government, the project reflects the provincial commitment to accommodating the increasing student population in Chilliwack and enhancing access to quality education. Construction is part of a broader initiative that has added over 3,000 new student spaces in Chilliwack in the last six years.
