City of Chilliwack Prepares for August 20, 2024 Council Meeting: Key Development and Community Issues on the Agenda

The Chilliwack City Council is set to discuss several important issues at the upcoming council meeting on August 20, 2024. The meeting will address key topics related to urban development, environmental management, and community services.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Days Contract:
Council will review a proposal to award a three-year contract to Environmental 360 Solutions Ltd. for managing the city’s annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Days. The contract, covering 2024 to 2026, will facilitate the environmentally responsible disposal of hazardous household materials.

Rezoning Applications:
Several rezoning proposals will be presented, including:

  • 45419 Kipp Avenue: Rezoning from R1-A (Urban Residential) to R1-C (Urban Infill).
  • 9777 and 9795 Carleton Street and 46780 Yale Road: Rezoning from R1-A (Urban Residential) to R5 (Low Rise Apartment).
  • 7949 Venture Place: Amend the OCP designation from "General Industrial" to "Mixed Commercial and Industrial"
  • 8614 Nixon Road and 8725 Veronika Place: Rezoning from Rural Hillside and Environmental Conservation to Residential - Low Density
  • 4440 Wilson Road: Rezoning from RR (Rural Residential) to R1-A (Urban Residential).
  • 46005 Stevenson Road: Rezoning from R1-A (Urban Residential) to R1-C (Urban Infill) and R3 (Small Lot Residential)

These changes aim to support ongoing residential and commercial development within the city.

Liquor Licence Application:
A public information meeting will be scheduled to gather community input on a liquor primary licence application submitted by Chilliwack Refinery House Hair Studio Inc., located at 5622 Vedder Road. This application seeks to expand the business’s offerings to include liquor service.

Official Community Plan Amendment:
Council will consider a proposal to amend the Official Community Plan for the property at 7949 Venture Place, changing its designation from "General Industrial" to "Mixed Commercial and Industrial." The Planning Department has recommended that this amendment be denied.

Development and Variance Permits:
Additional items on the agenda include development and variance permits for properties at 8614 Nixon Road, 46005 Stevenson Road, and 46719 Yale Road, with public hearings set to follow.
