Chilliwack Council Approves New Restaurant Development on Wellington Avenue

February 22, 2024

The Chilliwack City Council has approved a development permit for the construction of a new restaurant in downtown Chilliwack. The restaurant will be located in the 45900 block of Wellington Avenue, next to Red Chillies Sports Bar, and will include significant exterior renovations to two existing commercial buildings.

The development, spearheaded by Station One Architects, involves the following key upgrades:

  • Additions to the front entrances of both buildings.
  • A new second-storey mezzanine at the north end of 45957 Wellington Avenue.
  • Demolition of part of the north end of 45951 Wellington Avenue to create a new paved area.
  • The creation of an outdoor patio and a private lane with an archway at 45963 Wellington Avenue, enhancing the pedestrian experience in the area.
  • Installation of a security gate at the Skelton building entrance.

This project aligns with the city’s design guidelines for downtown Chilliwack and is expected to contribute positively to the area's ongoing revitalization. City planners and council members have praised the development for its potential to enhance economic opportunities and breathe new life into Wellington Avenue, further extending the vibrancy brought by the nearby District 1881.
